All the foals are now weaned and eating hard food. 2 foals have been sold and have gone to their new homes. Withymead Corona has been sold locally to a show home. Withymead Margarita has been sold to Scotland as a future inhand filly and brood mare. Good luck to the foals and their new owners, I wish them lots of success. Heritage Championships and the Olympia Semifinals. Islyn Balch was placed 6th in the mixed Welsh A and B Class. Not bad for a little First Ridden pony and her young jockey Megan Worton.
Plum will now have a well-deserved rest over the winter.

Just received this lovely picture of the yearling Withymead Campari from Mrs Janet Hoyle

Forlan Honey Cookie is not in foal for 2013 and will now be backed ready to start a new career as a ridden pony next year.

The only mare in foal for next year is
Islyn Cantores, probably a good thing given the current economic climate!

Colne Fantasy is now backed and is schooling on nicely. She is such a steady mare, nothing phazes her and she loves jumping

JULY 2012

1st July  Staffordshire Festival

So so pleased that Mynyddtarren the Marksman who I bought with his mum Mynyddtarren Georgia as a 6 week old foal and who went to Claire Smalley (Barkway Stud) after his first ridden season with me qualified for the First Ridden M&M Class at HOYS 2012.

Congratulations to Claire and his young jockey Gemma Pallet. Pippa and Pimms are halfsisters to Max and will hopefully follow in his footsteps.

JULY 2012

2nd July

Just received this fabulous photo of Coelenharges Jarno, sire of my 2013 foals winning his 2012 Bronze medal. Jarno is a Silver Medal winning stallion now owned by Lynn Scott and shown superbly by her daughter Emma.

JUNE 2012

20th June Cheshire County Show

Islyn Balch with her Young jockey Connor Murtagh moved right up the line to be placed 4th in the HOYS First Ridden. Fabulous result in their first HOYS together and it was only the 3rd time Connor had ridden Plum.

Also congratulations to the Champion- Coelenharges Jarno who already has his 2012 Bronze Medal. Jarno is the sire of several of Withymead Studs 2013 foals

JUNE 2012

10th June Northern All Welsh Silver Medal

Withymead Pimms went superbly to win the yearling filly class and was Reserve Youngstock Champion to the eventual Silver Medal winner. So pleased with her and a big thank you to Stephen Greenwood and family.

6th June West Yorkshire WPCA

Another good outing for Withymead Pimms 2nd in a good class of yearlings.

4th June Scottish and Northern WPCA

A brilliant start to Withymead Pimms (Blanche Mikado out of Mynyddtarren Georgia) showing career with Steven Greenwood. 1st Yearling filly.

MAY 2012

A wonderful start to May with the birth of a stunning chestnut filly foal. Blanche Mikado x Forlan Honey Cookie, full sister to Cream Soda. She is everything I wanted and has been called Withymead Honey Charm.

                 5th May BSPS Area 1B

What an amazing day. Islyn Balch and Megan produced a superb show to win The Open A and B’s qualifying for RIHS and then ending up Reserve Champion. Photos to follow.

7th May NCPA Open Show

Another amazing day with Islyn Balch winning the Open Ridden class and qualifying for the Olympia semifinals at the BSPS Heritage Show. Then she was reserve champion to a stunning Highland.

Plum was also 2nd in the Dalkeith/ Nps Junior Ridden Class qualifying for the Junior Ridden Class at both NPS and PUK Summer Championships. What a weekend!

8th May

Islyn Cantores foaled a bay roan colt foal by Idyllic Idris. He is the most amazing mover as would be expected with his breeding and already looks to be a special boy.

Socks the cat  was not to be left out and produced 6 kittens by an unknown sire. She has hidden them high up in the haystack.

12th May

Mynyddtarren Georgia foaled late afternoon, a chunky bay colt by Brierdene Ben Hur. He is full brother to the very successful show filly Withymead Pippa and will hopefully follow in her footsteps before starting a ridden career.

MAY 2012

26th May Area 2B

I took 2 ponies out for the first time this year, the Exmoor Withymead Amaretto accompanying  Islyn Balch. Amaretto stole the show going superbly to win her BSPS Open Ridden Class, qualifying for the Summer Champs. She is very much a novice and we need to work on her gallop but she was such a good girl. She couldn’t compete in her novice class as Sophia was otherwise engaged,  but she will be aimed at novice classes mainly this year.

Islyn Balch not to be outdone was 2nd in a very large mixed novice class with Megan riding superbly despite the class having to be stood down for the arrival of the emergency helicopter. Best wishes to Natalie for a speedy recovery.

Finally Islyn Balch was 3rd in her Open Ridden behind 2 outstanding section B stallions, Waxwing Prince Hal and Moelgarnedd Derwyn and we were home by lunchtime which was even better!

25th May

Blanche Miranda  foaled today and I couldn’t be more pleased with the stunning dun filly by Blanche Mikado(Waxwing Stud). Now called Margarita (thank you Rose) she is being retained as a future brood mare and ridden pony.

19th May Longton Riding Club

Again a good day for Islyn Balch with a win in the PUK Kingsford Open and a 2nd in the BSPS Novice, these placings giving her qualification for both PUK and BSPS Summer Champs.

APRIL 2012

After a trip to the NPS Spring Festival at Malvern where Islyn Balch and Megan were 4th in the Underwood Young Rider Final, the pony numbers were increased with the arrival of  Skelwith Sun Surprise, a really well-grown palomino yearling colt by the outstanding stallion Sunwillow Zermatt (Waxwing Hillbilly x Sunwillow Quest). Hopefully Sid in the future will prove to be as successful as his Dad as a ridden pony.

APRIL 2012

                     7th April NEWPCS

Withymead Pimms went to her first show was placed 3rd Yearling filly. Thank you to Emma Scott for showing her.

                      15th  April NCPA Derbyshire

Islyn Balch was 2nd in a big class just missing out on qualifying for the RIHS as a Junior Ridden pony. This was Plums (and Megans) first qualifier so close!

Idyllic Idris left Tracey Milwards yard to go to his new home where he will be produced As an Inhand pony. Very best wishes and good luck to Tim and Mandy with my lovely boy. His first foal at Withymead Stud is due in May from Islyn Cantores.

NPS Area 5

Another first for Islyn Balch and Megan; their first HOYS qualifier as an Open Ridden. The weather could not have been worse, wind and driving rain, everyone was wet through and frozen but Plum went absolutely foot-perfect to score the 2nd highest ride mark and ending up a brilliant 6th place. She’s definitely not just a FR pony! Despite both pony and rider being shivering and cold they then won their Peasedown Qualifier. I have never been so pleased to load up and go home.

MARCH 2012

Idyllic Idris is now backed and at Tracey Milwards (tmshowing) being schooled on. Showtime for him will come later this year. Idris may be available for sale to the right home as I have decided that I want to breed "coloured" Section A's.

17th March NCPA Festival at South View - Islyn Balch went superbly to win the Novice Ridden qualifying for the NCPA Summer Champs

25th March Bolton RC - After first show on grass in 2012, Islyn Balch really showed off and won Small Breeds Open Ridden qualifying her for Equifest and NCPA. She then went on to be 2nd in a massive Junior Ridden class picking up the last of her NCPA qualifiers.

The stables are starting to empty (Thank Goodness) as the colts head down to Cheshire for their Summer holiday. Time to play out and enjoy being boys!! Waxwing Panama is developing into a very promising pony and is enjoying being the boss!

The puppies have all gone to their new homes except for one, the lovely Lexie who is proving to be the easiest pup I've had in a long time. Two have made the long journey to Holland, two to Leamington Spa as potential Guide Dogs and the other 3 to lovely homes all over the UK. A repeat mating is hopefully planned for later this year with puppies already booked.

Islyn Balch having wintered out is now enjoying being ridden again and has already been to a couple of shows. As Megan is now out of First ridden they are competing in Novice / Open riddens.

19th February Barton NPS/ BSPS - 2nd Novice Ridden qualifying for NPS Spring Festival

25th February Northern All Welsh, Selby - 1st Noive Ridden qualifying for BSPS Winter Champs

Catch up time as I seem to have been hibernating at home since the New Year. Plum (Islyn Balch) and Annie (Withymead Amaretto) have been brought back into work after their winter holiday and the brood mares have taken over the sheep barn in the run up to foaling.

Puppies are now in the stables under heat lamps and I am starting to select the show puppies out of this stunning litter by Balrion Weathertop Aramis. I think this is one of the best overall litters of Chocolate Labradors that I have bred. They found the snow in January really good fun!!!

We have a selection of homebred stock for sale each year of all ages, including ridden ponies.

Visitors are very welcome but please phone first.
